Regarding the situation in northern Myanmar, China will continue to urge for peaceful dialogue, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ms. Mao Ning.
During a regular press briefing on August 9, Ms. Mao made these remarks in response to a question from AFP, as reported by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.
The embassy's statement further revealed that AFP had inquired about reports from Myanmar state media indicating that Mr. Deng Xijun, China's Special Envoy for Asian Affairs, visited Naypyidaw on Thursday. It was noted that this visit came after reports of the Myanmar government losing control of its northeast military command. Additionally, it was mentioned that a new round of peace talks was initially scheduled to be held in China on Thursday between the Myanmar government and the "Three Brotherhood Alliance." However, it was reported that the government did not send representatives to attend. AFP asked whether China could confirm this information.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ms. Mao Ning stated that China, as a close and friendly neighbor of Myanmar, is consistently attentive to the developments in Myanmar, particularly in the northern regions. She emphasized that China does not wish to see conflict in Myanmar and hopes for a swift return to peace and stability in the country, especially in the northern areas.
Ms. Mao further explained that China has always advocated for all parties in Myanmar to cease hostilities and resolve issues through dialogue and negotiations. She highlighted that China remains committed to supporting Myanmar's national unity, stability, and development through peaceful means and will continue to actively encourage peaceful dialogue. Additionally, she affirmed that China will provide all possible support to Myanmar's peace process.
This statement comes after a meeting on August 8 in Naypyidaw, where State Administration Council Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met with H.E. Mr. Deng Xijun, China’s Special Envoy for Asian Affairs, at the SAC Chairman's reception hall.
During the meeting, discussions were held on various topics, including the strengthening of friendly relations and diplomatic ties between the two countries, Myanmar’s internal peace process, and the stability of border regions. The talks also covered joint efforts between Myanmar and China to combat online gambling, online fraud, other financial scams, and illegal activities. The State Administration Council (SAC) briefed on its initiatives aimed at national stability, development, and the steps being taken to implement a roadmap toward these goals. Additionally, the preparations for holding a free, fair, and multiparty democratic general election were discussed.
The meeting was attended by SAC Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, along with SAC Joint Secretary Lt. Gen. Ye Win Oo, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister of Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, and other officials. The Chinese delegation was led by H.E.
