Chin National League for Democracy demanded an immediate release of Chin State Upper House lawmaker Whei Tin representing the National League for Democracy and all Chin nationals abducted by Arakan Army (AA) for the sake of strengthening friendship between brotherhood ethnics, stunning racial conflict and ensuring secure movements of the people, according to the statement of the CNLD issued on November 4.

Lawmaker Whei Tin was on his way back to attend a session of the Union Parliament, which resumed on November 4 in Nay Pyi Taw and abducted by the AA on the way to Kyauktaw in Rakhine State from Paletwa by boat.

“We are concerned about misunderstanding and disagreement between ethnics. Those abductors have different reasons. Anyhow, we don’t want any disagreement between Chin and Rakhine. Therefore we demand an immediate release,” said Pu No Htan Kat, Joint-Chairman of the CNLD.

The arrest of the AA includes Chin MP Whei Tin, five Indians, two translators and two boat drivers numbering 10.

Except Chin MP Whei Tin, the AA released nine detainees. An Indian man out of 10 people abducted by the Arakan Army (AA) died while in the ethnic armed group’s custody.

The armed ethnic organizations should stay away from the acts that can disrupt friendship and goodwill between ethnics while implementing their objectives, according to the statement of the CNLD issued on November 4.

The AA has started being active in Paletwa, Chin State since 2015. Until now, it has not done any good for us, but brought bad things there [10 deaths, 82 abductees and more than 4,000 displaced persons]. The villages in Paletwa where it became a place of armed conflict are facing difficulties in doing livelihoods and lagged far behind developments, according to the statement of the CNLD.
