The ministry is drafting the law for beauty clinics. Only beauty clinics which have registered as the specialist clinic can continue to operate, said Dr. Tun Myint, head of Yangon Region Public Health Department.

“There are 12 private specialist hospitals, 42 general hospitals, 280 specialist clinics and 2,666 general clinics in Yangon region. Beauty clinics cannot provide services if they have registered only as ordinary clinics. I can divulge exact facts about it only after the law has been drafted,” he added.

Dr. Wai Myint, joint-secretary of Myanmar Medical Council said: “Myanmar Medical Council (MMC) has to cooperate with other organizations in checking private clinics as the council is to serves as a member of Private Health Supervisory Committee. We have to ask a foreign doctor who will give medical treatment in Myanmar, to present the recommendation letter from his or her home country. If possible, we ask the medical treatment record within three months issued by the medical council or the similar organization in respective countries. The MMC is to forward the recommendation letter to Ministry of Health and Sports. The MMC then gives the green-light. The MMC has drafted a guideline for it. We will continue to educate beauty clinics.”

Private Health Supervisory Committee conducted surprise checks on six clinics in Mayangone, Hlaing, Kyeemyindaing, Lanmadaw and Bothtaung Townships in Yangon. Illegal medicines and operation room were found at Yaungnioo clinic in Hlaing Township. The committee has taken action against Yaungnioo clinic in accord with the National Drug Law and the law amending the Private Health Law.

In addition, the committee has taken action against the Sun clinic in accordance with the National Drug Law and the Myanmar Medical Council Law.
