Aung San Stadium in downtown Yangon will be renovated on a large scale and upgraded to a stadium with a capacity of 25,000 spectators.

The Aung San Stadium Upgrading Committee has been formed to rebuild the Aung San Stadium to a stadium with a capacity of 25,000 spectators.

The committee will be chaired by the Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, with the Union Minister for Construction as the vice-chairman and the Deputy Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs as the secretary.

In 2022, the Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing visited the stadium and directed it to be upgraded to a level that would be suitable for hosting Olympic Games.

Aung San Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in the downtown area of Yangon.

Previously known as the BAA (The Burma Athletics Association), the stadium was renamed Aung San Stadium on October 17, 1953, in honor of late General Aung San after independence.

The stadium was started in 1908 and completed in 1910, with a 400-meter track added in 1935.

The stadium hosted the 1961 and 1969 Southeast Asian Peninsular Games.
