The court hearing for U Win Myint and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi charged with corruption has been postponed after Mandalay High Court Judge U Myint San has tested positive for Covid-19, according to a source related to the case.

Former President U Win Myint and former State Counsellor  Daw Aung San Suu Kyi appeared in the special court set up in Nay Pyi Taw Prison on August 29.

The hearing for the case numbers 46, 47, 48, 49 and 50 under the anti-corruption law for causing a loss to the state funds as they abused their power in renting and buying the helicopter without following the financial rules was set on that day, but it was postponed as the judge is being infected with Covid-19.

Both were charged under the Anti-Corruption Law following the investigation that they abused their power in renting a helicopter and buying another in the period from 2019 to 2021 with the national disaster fund on the pretext of disaster prevention tasks under the National League for Democracy government and did not follow the financial regulations. They were accused that they granted permissions with the official letters. Such doings caused a loss to state funds and possessions.

Judge U Myint San is also handling another case in which Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was charged with two counts of corruption under the Anti-Corruption Law for reportedly receiving 550,000 US dollars in bribes from U Maung Weik, owner of Sae Paing Company.
