The Mon State Election Sub-Commission has reported that approximately 600,000 eligible voters are registered across five townships in Mon State that will take part in Phase (1) of the 2025 multiparty democratic general election.
The Phase (1) election, scheduled to be held on December 28, will take place in five townships in Mon State: Kyaikto, Thaton, Mawlamyine, Kyaikmaraw, and Chaungzon.
“For the five townships included in Phase (1) of the 2025 multiparty democratic general election, a total of 335 polling stations will be set up across 158 wards and village tracts, with around 600,000 eligible voters,” said State Election Officer U Hein Lin Htet.
He added, “In Mawlamyine Township alone, preparations have already been made for 117 polling stations across 42 wards and village tracts. The total number of eligible voters in Mawlamyine Township exceeds 210,000.”
According to announcements by the Union Election Commission (UEC), a total of 256 candidates will contest the 2025 multiparty democratic general election in Mon State. These include candidates from seven nationwide parties—the Union Solidarity and Development Party, National Unity Party, People’s Pioneer Party, National Development and Interests Party, Myanmar Farmers Development Party, Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (White Tiger Party), and the People’s Party—as well as two state-based parties, the Mon Unity Party and the Pa-O National Development Party, along with one independent candidate.
