Arakan Army (AA) ‘s mines damaged army convoys in Mrauk-U and Kyauktaw townships in Rakhine State on March 13.

The Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services announced on March 15 that in the time of matriculation exam, AA is committing unlawful acts to cut off transportation in the state. The terrorists are continuously committing terrorist acts such as mine attacks against army convoys and aid groups under the UN along the roads, arson attacks, abductions, tortures and murders in Rakhine State, it said.

The AA blew four remote mines on two army convoys near Paungtok Village on Yangon-Sittway Union Highway about 5,000 meters southeast of Mrauk-U, launched attacks with five remote mines and heavy weapons and small arms from the places near Teinnyo and Taung-U villages, it said.

Hand-made triangle-shaped nails were also spread over the Union highway to bar cars from travelling on it. Hence, the Tatmadaw had no choice but to shoot back at them to clear the road, according to the announcement.

The AA terrorists attacked the Tatmadaw convoy that was going to serve security duties along the outer ring in the north of Kyauktaw Township with three remote mines and heavy weapons and small arms near Thazi Village on Kyauktaw-Paletwa road. The Tatmadaw fired back as it had become unavoidable, it said.

During the incidents, some Tatmadaw officers and other ranks fell or injuries and some cars were damaged.

AA terrorists disguising themselves as civilians and staying at IDP camps are attacking Tatmadaw cars on administrative duties, ration supply trucks and material supply trucks of the projects and police outposts and battalions with mines, and laying roadblocks including pointed iron pieces to cut off transport. They are committing unlawful acts, it said.
