MANDALAY - A gunman robbed a bank in Pyigyitagon Township, Mandalay Region, on Thursday evening, according to the Mandalay Region Police Force.

The gunman came into the bank alone and threatened the bank staff with a gun and escaped with the cash afterwards.

“A lone gunman came into the bank. We don’t know how many people were waiting in the car. He also brought a handcuff and robbed two packed cash bundles. We are now reviewing the CCTV footage of him. We have blocked the entrance and exit of the township and we are trying to arrest him,” said Police Col. Maung Maung Aye from Mandalay Region Police Force.

“The gunman threatened the employees for money. Later, the bank staff gave him 20 million Kyats,” said Ward Administrator Soe Min Han.

Currently, police are now carrying out security tasks around the bank.

“We found a car of the bank robber between 69th  A and 111th Streets. We think he prepared for a bank robbery. We also found the bottles of diesel in the car which was burnt down. We don’t know whether he ran away by motorbike afterwards. We are now trying to find and arrest him,” said Police Col Maung Maung Aye.

Until yesterday evening, the police had yet to catch the bank robber.
