A man shot dead in Hpakant, and unknown armed group arrested a USDP chairman for Mhawwon ward

A resident of Hui Sai Village in Hpakant Township, was shot and killed on the evening of August 25, sources said.

The deceased is 58-year-old U Kyaw Than from Hui Sai Village. He sustained two gunshot wounds on his chest, face and shoulders. Residents said that he was killed while returning home on a motorcycle.

A local said, "It happened before 7:00 pm. He has been there for a long time. He was retired from Tatmadaw and a party member of Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP). He was also a member of the district administration before. I heard that he was killed as he was an informer. The villager can't know exactly.''

It is reported that the deceased was sent from Tamakhan Cemetery to Hpakant Hospital on August 26.

In addition, a group of armed men abducted U Kyaw Oo, the ward chairman of the USDP, from Mhawwon Ward, Hpakant, in a car at around 4:00 pm on August 26.

More than 20 ward administrators and people related to them who were accused of being informers and killed after the political change on February 1, 2021 in Hpakant area.

In Kachin State, starting after May 9, 2021, a total of 57 ward administrators, village officials and civilians were killed in ten months and they are two in Hmawhan area, ten in Hopin area and four in Nanma area in Mohnyin Township, 24 in Hpakant Township, five in Talogyi area and two in Myitkyina in Myitkyina Township, two in Tanai Township, three in Kamine Township, two in Momouk Township, one in Bhamo Township and two in Shwegu Township.
