Fifty seven percent of confirmed Covid-19 patients in Myanmar exhibit no symptoms although they have tested positive for the virus, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Health and Sports.
Still seeing the virus outbreak, the country had 151 confirmed patients (161 cases now), 57 percent of whom show no symptoms. It can therefore be assumed that there might be infections among the people though they show no symptoms. Otherwise, those with mild symptoms might have gone to hospitals, clinics and health departments. The reason why Myanmar sees a lesser number of confirmed cases may be a failure to test large numbers of samples, the statement points out.
The first Covid-19 case was confirmed in Myanmar on March 23. The number of cases increased in the second and third weeks of April. The number has decreased a little since the last week of April.
The decreasing number of confirmed cases is thanks to systematic measures such as earlier contact tracing, putting close contacts in quarantine, regarding those suspected of having symptoms as persons under investigation of Covid-19 and testing their samples, keeping returnees from overseas in designated buildings and restricting their movement, the statement says.
The measures also include the ban on entry of foreign travellers and large gatherings and urging people to stay home, wash their hands frequently and wear face masks.
