A total of 41 monks, yogis, nuns and laypersons from Setyon Monastery in Kyonmangay, Wakema Township, Ayeyawady Region are tested positive for COVID-19, according to an announcement released on November 19.

Two monks from the monastery are admitted to the hospital as they lost their sense of smell and they tested positive for the virus on November 7.

“A total of 121 people from the monastery have taken a swab test and found 41 of them are infected on November 19. 11 of them, the patients with underlying chronic medical conditions, are sent to Pathein general hospital for further treatment. The rest of them are kept at an isolation ward in Kyonmangay to have medical treatment. They are in good health,” said Dr Thiha Aung, deputy head of public health and treatment department for Ayeyawady Region.

Ayeyawady Region found 2,092 COVID-19 confirmed patients so far till the morning of November 19 and 1,426 of them are allowed to be discharged from the hospital. Five patients are died and 661 patients are still receiving treatment in hospitals.
