A total of 32 more undocumented Myanmar nationals aged between 19 and 31 years have been arrested in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand, according to reports from Thailand.
On the night of March 7, Thai authorities arrested 32 undocumented Myanmar nationals: 25 men and 7 women, aged between 19 and 31 years, who had illegally entered Thailand, according to Thai news reports.
The undocumented Myanmar nationals entered Thailand through illegal routes from Phaya Thonezu Town, Kayin State, Myanmar, and were arrested by Thai authorities while hiding in the forest near Ban Ti Village, Sai Yok Township, Kanchanaburi Province.
The undocumented Myanmar nationals arrested were from Yangon, Bago, Tanintharyi, Mandalay regions, Mon and Rakhine states. They entered Thailand through illegal channels with the intention of working in Thailand and that they had given statements to Thai authorities that they had paid 30,000 baht each to their broker, according to the reports.
The undocumented Myanmar nationals arrested by Thai authorities are being held at the police station in Sai Yok and are being investigated, and that they will be prosecuted under Thai law, according to Thai news reports.
Similarly, on the early morning of March 6, Thai authorities arrested 13 undocumented Myanmar nationals: 12 women and 1 man in the Sankhle River, Win Ka Village, Sangkhla Buri Township, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand.
The undocumented Myanmar nationals illegally entered Thailand through the Thai-Myanmar border town of Phaya Thonezu in Kayin State, Myanmar, and were then illegally transported to Thailand via the Sangkhla River by a boatman, Thai media reported, citing Thai authorities.
Among the undocumented Myanmar nationals arrested, one man fled to Thailand after being forced to serve in the military under the military service law, while the Myanmar women entered Thailand illegally to work due to war and economic hardship, and were told to pay a broker 15,000 baht if they entered Thailand.
The undocumented Myanmar nationals and boatmen arrested by Thai authorities will be prosecuted in accordance with Thai law.
Similarly, on the evening of March 6, 19 undocumented Myanmar nationals were arrested by Thai authorities while trying to enter Thailand in vehicles arranged by brokers through a forest track in Sangkhlaburi Township, Kanchanaburi Province.
Thai media outlets quoted Thai authorities as saying that the undocumented Myanmar nationals arrested by Thai authorities had given statements that they had agreed to pay a service fee of 20,000 Thai baht to brokers in order to work in Thailand.
In addition, on March 4, 55 undocumented Myanmar nationals were arrested by Thai authorities in four locations in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand, according to local reports.
