A total of 184 foreign workers, including 58 Myanmar nationals, were arrested during an immigration raid at a battery factory in Seremban , Malaysia, according to a statement from the Malaysian Immigration Department, cited by some Myanmar workers.
The joint operation, involving the Immigration Department and other government agencies, was carried out at a factory in Seremban. Authorities said they inspected 219 foreign workers following reports from nearby residents and detained 184 individuals who failed to present valid travel or work documents.
Those arrested, aged between 20 and 49, included 38 Myanmar men and 20 women, 123 Bangladeshi nationals, two Pakistanis, and one Indonesian woman. In total, 163 men and 21 women were taken into custody.
The Immigration Department said the detainees are being held at an immigration detention camp for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Earlier, on November 1, Malaysian authorities also arrested several Myanmar nationals who had entered the country illegally via Thailand.
In that incident, a vehicle carrying 13 undocumented Myanmar nationals skidded and overturned while crossing into Malaysia. The Myanmar nationals, both men and women, were unable to present valid identification documents. The driver, identified as a Thai national, reportedly did not possess a valid driver’s license.
According to officials, the Myanmar nationals were detained under Malaysia’s Immigration Act, while the Thai driver was arrested under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.
