The ASEAN Special Envoy will visit Myanmar on October 28, leading a humanitarian delegation to discuss efforts to expand humanitarian access across the country, according to diplomatic sources.
Sources, who requested anonymity, said Philippine Foreign Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro would visit Nay Pyi Taw from October 28 to 29 to meet with senior officials.
Lazaro is scheduled to meet Foreign Minister U Tin Maung Swe to discuss ASEAN's efforts to address Myanmar's humanitarian needs.
The delegation will include senior officials and experts from the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre), which is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Lazaro and the AHA Centre team are also expected to visit Taunggyi, Shan State. There, they will meet with local relief officials from various organizations to discuss humanitarian needs.
When asked whether ASEAN had requested a meeting with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi during the two-day visit, sources said no meeting with her had been arranged.
Media reports had recently circulated suggesting that Lazaro would meet Daw Aung San Suu Kyi following what were described as positive developments.
