Myanmar’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy has permanently revoked CNG purchasing privileges for 10 YBS buses after they were found operating as factory ferry vehicles instead of serving their designated public transport routes.

The ministry said inspections were launched following reports that some YBS buses were being used to transport factory workers in industrial zones. Authorities confirmed that 10 buses had violated their operating conditions and imposed a lifetime ban on their access to compressed natural gas (CNG) beginning July 25. The registration numbers of the affected vehicles will be circulated to all CNG filling stations.

The ministry warned that CNG-powered vehicles caught illegally selling gas to other vehicles will also face a permanent suspension of CNG purchasing rights.

Authorities said subsidized CNG will continue to be reserved for operators providing genuine public transport services. YBS buses and taxis currently receive CNG at 273.25 kyats per kilogram, a price the ministry described as among the lowest in Asia.
