The group of elected Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) representatives has selected Senior General Min Aung Hlaing as Vice President.

Today (March 31), the second day of the meeting of the Presidential Electoral College—comprising the group of elected Lower House representatives—was held at the Pyithu Hluttaw assembly hall.

At the meeting, two candidates were nominated for the position of Vice President: Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Dr. Kyaw Swe, a Pyithu Hluttaw representative from Taungdwingyi Township representing the Union Solidarity and Development Party. As there were two nominees, a secret ballot vote was conducted.

Out of 263 elected representatives, three were absent with permission, leaving 260 members who cast their votes. In the results, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received 247 votes, while Dr. Kyaw Swe received 10 votes, with three invalid ballots. As Senior General Min Aung Hlaing secured the majority of votes, the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw announced his election as Vice President.

The name of the Vice President elected by the group of Lower House representatives will be submitted by the Speaker to the Chairman of the Union Parliament.
