USDP secures most seats in Mon State with 21 out of 45 constituencies

In Mon State, which has a total of 45 constituencies, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) has won the largest number of seats with 21, followed by the Mon Unity Party (MUP) with 17 seats, while five other political parties secured the remaining seven seats, according to the Mon State Sub-Commission of the Election Commission.

Following the completion of vote counting from Phase (1) of the multi-party democratic general election held on December 28, 2025, and Phase (2) held on January 11, 2026, the results were finalized for Mon State, which consists of only 10 townships. Based on these results, the number of elected representatives and party-list seats under the proportional representation (PR) system has now been officially announced.

In Mon State, representatives were elected for a total of 45 constituencies, comprising 10 Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) seats; six Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) seats under the first-past-the-post system and six under the proportional representation system; 10 State Hluttaw seats under the first-past-the-post system and 10 under the proportional representation system; and three ethnic affairs constituencies.

Out of the 45 constituencies, the USDP won five Pyithu Hluttaw seats; three Amyotha Hluttaw seats under the first-past-the-post system and two under the proportional representation system; six State Hluttaw seats under the first-past-the-post system and three under the proportional representation system; as well as two ethnic affairs seats—one Bamar Ethnic Affairs seat and one Karen Ethnic Affairs seat—bringing its total to 21 seats.

Similarly, the Mon Unity Party (MUP), which won the second-highest number of seats, secured five Pyithu Hluttaw seats; three Amyotha Hluttaw seats under the first-past-the-post system and two under the proportional representation system; four State Hluttaw seats under the first-past-the-post system and three under the proportional representation system, for a total of 17 seats.

The Ethnic Unity Party won one Amyotha Hluttaw seat and one State Hluttaw seat under the proportional representation system, securing a total of two seats.

“With regard to the party list for the proportional representation system, arrangements have been made by the party’s central leadership. The names of the candidates have been submitted in sealed form to the relevant election commission. Only after the election commission makes an official announcement will it be known which candidates will be entitled to take seats in parliament,” said an official from the Ethnic Unity Party.

In addition, the National Development Party won one Amyotha Hluttaw seat and one State Hluttaw seat under the proportional representation system, totaling two seats in Mon State. The People’s Party won one State Hluttaw seat under the proportional representation system, the People’s Pioneer Party also secured one State Hluttaw proportional representation seat, and the Pa-O National Development Party won one Pa-O Ethnic Affairs Hluttaw seat.

According to the Mon State Sub-Commission of the Election Commission, Phase (1) of the multi-party democratic general election held on December 28, 2025, took place in Kyaikto, Thaton, Mawlamyine, Kyaikmaraw, and Chaungzon townships. Of the 594,550 eligible voters, 234,872 cast their ballots. Phase (2) of the election, held on January 11, 2026, took place in Bilin, Paung, Mudon, Thanbyuzayat, and Ye townships, where 233,439 out of 593,091 eligible voters participated in voting.
