Published 8 January 2026

The Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) has announced a reduction in the mandatory foreign currency conversion rate for exporters, lowering it from 25 percent to 15 percent.

According to Notification No. 2/2026, issued on 7 January 2026, the CBM exercised its authority under Section 49(b) of the Foreign Exchange Management Law to amend the existing regulation. Under the previous Notification No. 37/2024, exporters were required to convert 25 percent of their export earnings into Myanmar kyats in line with CBM Notification No. 12/2022.

With the new notification, exporters are now required to exchange only 15 percent of their export earnings into kyats, in accordance with the same CBM directives.

The revised regulation took effect on 1 January 2026.
