Restoration works underway at National Museum, National Library, and Mandalay Palace Walls after earthquake

Repairs are underway at the National Museum (Nay Pyi Taw), the National Library (Nay Pyi Taw), and the Mandalay Palace walls, all of which were damaged by a powerful earthquake.

On December 21, the Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture (Culture) Daw Nu Mya Zan inspected restoration work at the National Museum, where multiple exhibition halls are being repaired. She stressed that all work must meet set standards and quality requirements and instructed staff to prepare for the reinstallation of exhibits once repairs are completed.

She also inspected ongoing repairs at the National Library, including buildings and the e-library, urging timely completion so the library can reopen soon and services can resume smoothly.

On December 22, the Deputy Minister visited Mandalay to inspect restoration work on the Mandalay Palace walls. She reviewed repairs being carried out on various sections of the walls, towers, and gates, and emphasized proper drainage, structural alignment, and preservation of original designs. Highlighting the palace walls as a key cultural heritage site of Mandalay, she called for careful restoration in line with standards and timely completion of assigned tasks.
