The Information Team of the National Defence and Security Council announced yesterday that Acting President U Myint Swe is currently in critical condition and receiving intensive care at the Special Intensive Care Unit of the No. (2) Military Hospital (1,000-bed).
According to the statement, U Myint Swe began experiencing slowed movements and reduced food intake in early 2023. A team of senior specialist doctors examined him, and medical tests confirmed that he was suffering from Parkinson’s disease and associated neuromuscular weakness.
He received treatment at Mount Elizabeth Medical Center in Singapore from 15 to 19 April 2024, and again at the No. (2) Military Hospital (1,000-bed) from 27 May to 18 June 2024.
After discharge, he continued receiving follow-up care at home under the supervision of a special medical team led by Union Minister for Health Professor Dr Thet Khaing Win. However, as his health condition did not improve, he took medical leave and continued treatment at home starting from 18 July 2024.
In July 2025, U Myint Swe experienced weight loss, difficulty eating, fever, and decreased alertness, leading to his readmission to the No. (2) Military Hospital (1,000-bed) on 24 July. Medical evaluations determined that his condition had become critical, and he is now under intensive monitoring and treatment.
