A memorial service was held at the India Centre on Shwe Bon Thar Road, Yangon, to pay tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 30.
The event was attended by the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, officials from the All Myanmar Hindu Religious Federation, officials from the Myanmar-India Friendship Association, leaders and representatives of Myanmar political parties, intellectuals, people of Indian origin and the Myanmar media.
The event began with a 15-minute video showing the testimonies of those affected by the Pahalgam terror attack, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony for those affected by the attack.
At the memorial wreath-laying ceremony, Ambassador Abhay Thakur, Director General of the Department of Strategic Studies and Training under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Zaw Phyo Win, Chairman of the All Myanmar Hindu Religious Federation U Tin Myint, and Advisor to the Myanmar-India Friendship Association U Win Naing paid their respects and honored those who lost their lives by laying wreaths and scattering flowers as a gesture of condolence and solidarity.
The participants then observed a minute’s silence in memory of the people who were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack.
The Indian Ambassador reaffirmed India’s resolve to bring to justice the perpetrators, planners and sponsors of the terror attack, and thanked the government and people of Myanmar for their unwavering support and solidarity with India.
A total of 26 tourists, including 25 Indians from various Indian states and one Nepali, were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack.
India has said that Pakistan is responsible for the terrorist attack in the village of Pahalgam in Kashmir, which has led to tensions between India and Pakistan over the incident.
