According to a statement from the Ministry of Labour, efforts are being made to facilitate the sending of Myanmar workers to Russia. A coordination meeting was held on February 24 at the Ministry of Labour's conference hall to discuss the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries, as well as matters related to employer-employee contracts and other relevant issues.
During the meeting, Union Minister for Labour U Chit Swe highlighted the challenges faced by migrant workers, including high costs, unethical employers, workplace issues, insecure living conditions, forced labor, discriminatory treatment, inadequate wages, difficulties in extending work and residence permits, and harsh weather conditions in destination countries.
The Union Minister also urged licensed overseas employment agencies to treat workers as if they were their own children, consider potential challenges, and operate as dignified companies.
Attendees discussed ensuring that Myanmar workers sent abroad are protected in accordance with the laws of the respective countries, providing safe working environments, securing fair wages based on working hours and skills, strengthening employer-employee agreements, and facilitating systematic remittances to families back home.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister for Labour U Win Shein, the permanent secretary, directors-general, department officials, representatives from the Myanmar Overseas Employment Agencies Federation (MOEAF), licensed overseas employment agencies, and officials from the ARA Academy, a Russian language training school.
