The Ministry of Labour has announced the suspension of new job offer submissions for 123 overseas employment agencies, including those that have failed to pay taxes.
According to the ministry, these agencies faced suspension due to non-compliance with tax regulations and failure to pay required sector-based penalties. Additionally, 16 overseas employment agencies that did not settle their fines within the designated timeframe will now be charged an additional monthly penalty of Ks 100,000.
The ministry further stated that the suspended agencies will only be allowed to submit new job offers once they have cleared their outstanding fines and tax payments.
Moreover, agencies that fail to submit monthly reports on deployed workers and remittance records for migrant worker families will also face penalties and suspension of new job offer submissions. According to an earlier directive from the ministry, all agencies must submit deployment reports within one day after the end of each month, regardless of whether workers were deployed. Similarly, remittance reports must be submitted within five days after the end of each month, even if supporting documents are unavailable.
In October, a total of 292 overseas employment agencies failed to submit remittance reports, affecting 55,663 deployed workers.
As of February 2024, there were 547 officially registered overseas employment agencies in Myanmar, though some had their licenses temporarily suspended, according to ministry records.
