One man dies, three buildings destroyed in Myeik fire

A man has died and three buildings have been destroyed in a fire that broke out in a house in Mingalar Lane, Alae Kyun Ward, Myeik Town, Tanintharyi Region, sources said.

The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old U Tin Yu aka Than Chaung.

“The house must have been set on fire by someone who was high on drugs. As far as we know, Ko Than Chaung and his brother had an argument at night. The house caught fire at around 3:30 am and Ko Than Chaung also died in the fire. The police have now arrested the person who set the fire. A plumbing shop and a house in front of the house were also engulfed in flames. Since it was night, people had to flee and could not bring anything out,” said residents of the neighborhood.

Firefighters led by District Fire Chief U San Oo, along with fire trucks, water bowsers, officials, charitable organizations and locals, rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire at 4 am.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire and the death and are acting in accordance with the law.
