According to local sources and reports from residents, explosions occurred on October 14 and again today, October 15, near the site of the Dawei traditional arms bowl drifting festival at the sand field on Strand Road in Dawei, Taninthayi Region.

On October 14, around 11 a.m., an explosion took place on the western side of Kan Nar Market in Dawei, as stated by a local resident. The resident added, "The explosion happened near the area where vehicles and motorcycles were parked behind the market. Fortunately, no one was injured."

Following the explosion, market shops were closed, and preparations for the traditional Dawei festival continued near the sand field, according to the same local resident.

Similarly, this morning, two more explosions occurred near the sand field, where the traditional Dawei Festival is to be held, as reported by local residents.

Around 8 a.m. today, another explosion took place near the sand field on Strand Road, injuring a woman due to shrapnel from the blast, according to one resident. The resident added, "About 20 minutes later, another explosion was heard, but there is no further information yet on any injuries."

After the explosions, security was tightened along Strand Road and at the entrances and exits of Dawei, with a heavy presence of security forces conducting checks, said the resident.

Due to these incidents, the market shops at Kan Nar Market were once again closed today, according to shopkeepers. "Yesterday, we had to close the shops and go home after the explosion near the western side of the market. Today, we had to close again after two more explosions," said one shopkeeper.

On October 25 of last year, an explosion occurred near the entertainment pavilion at the sand field where the Dawei festival was to be held. In 2022, the Dawei Guerrilla Group also detonated an explosive at the same site a day before the festival, according to local residents.
