On August 23, Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) announced that the electricity power plant in Myingyan, which had temporarily ceased operations due to regional circumstances, has resumed functioning.
The plant had previously suspended its operations on August 12 due to security concerns.
The company's statement noted that the situation around the plant has now stabilized, with reduced conflict in the surrounding areas, ensuring the safety of company employees and allowing operations to resume.
Additionally, the statement mentioned that coordination with Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise was carried out to facilitate the plant's reopening. The power plant is a combined-cycle gas turbine facility that uses natural gas.
The Myingyan 225 MW power plant, operated by Singapore-based Sembcorp, was officially inaugurated on March 16, 2019. Under the previous government, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy and the Electric Power Enterprise undertook the Myingyan project near the No. 1 Steel Plant in Myingyan Region, operating under the IPP/BOT system, utilizing natural gas and waste heat for the 225 MW power plant.
