Chinese Foreign Minister Mr Wang Yi affirmed China's strong support for Myanmar's independence and sovereignty, condemning EAO attacks on towns and villages in northern Shan State.
Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Foreign Minister Mr Wang Yi said the above during a meeting with the Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC), Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in the lobby of the office of the Chairman of the State Administration Council in Nay Pyi Taw on the afternoon of August 14, according to the statement of the SAC.
The meeting was attended by the Joint Secretary of the SAC, Lt. Gen. Ye Win Oo, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, Union Minister for State Administration Council Chairman's Office (2) U Ko Ko Hlaing, Deputy Minister for Information Major General Zaw Min Tun and officials attended, Ms l. Ma Jia, who has agreed to be appointed as China's ambassador to Myanmar, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Sun Weidong, Special Representative for Asian Affairs Mr Deng Xijun and members.
During the meeting, the SAC Chairman said that China and Myanmar are good neighbours and old friends, and they have built a community together in accordance with the five principles of peaceful coexistence. The dialogue will further improve the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
After that, Mr Wang Yi said that Myanmar is a country that is a good neighbor and old friend of China and China firmly supports Myanmar's independence and sovereignty. He also expressed his support for the SAC's implementation of the five-point roadmap for the stability and development of the country and preparations for holding a free and fair multi-party democratic general election. China is cooperating Myanmar's stability and peace seriously. China has expressed its opposition to the attacks on towns and villages by EAOs in northern Shan State.
Then, they discussed issues related to friendship and cooperation between the two countries, defence cooperation and Myanmar's internal peace and stability in the border region.
