The inaugural ceremony for the new direct flight between Yangon and Vientiane, operated by Myanmar Airways International (MAI), took place at Yangon International Airport Terminal 1 on June 25, 2024.
The event was graced by the presence of Lao Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Heuangseng Khamdalavong, MAI CEO Mr. Tanes Kumar, and Director-General U Kyaw Soe of the Department of Civil Aviation Myanmar. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official commencement of this exciting air service.
Upon the plane’s return from Vientiane, Laos, passengers were welcomed with a water splash at Yangon International Airport.
MAI’s Chief Executive Officer expressed enthusiasm about the new route, emphasizing its role in strengthening the airline’s presence in Southeast Asia and meeting passengers’ evolving travel needs.
Flights between Yangon and Vientiane will operate every Tuesday and Thursday, with ticket prices starting from US $159.
MAI’s recent expansions include flights to Chiang Mai and Dhaka in April and May. By the end of 2024, the airline aims to establish a comprehensive network of 21 international and 20 domestic flights.
