The ceasefire was declared and the SAC removed the Arakan Army (AA) from terrorist list due to the negotiation from the Nippon Foundation on March 1, 2021, but the AA violated the temporary ceasefire agreement and took part in the attack on Tatmadaw along with the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), said Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of State Administration Council (SAC).

On November 29, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing added the above while addressing the State Administration Council meeting (6/2023) held at the meeting hall of the State Administration Council Chairman's Office in Nay Pyi Taw.

The AA was established in the area occupied by Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in 2009 and entered Rakhine State in 2015. In December 2015, the Tatmadaw had to make an operation to attack the AA in Kyauktaw Township for recruiting new people and building an army. Similarly, in 2019, the military had to respond as the AA attacked on border outposts and abducted 118 students in Paletwa Township. Since then, there have been clashes with the AA in Rakhine state, said the SAC Chairman.

On March 1, 2021, the ceasefire agreement was reached after negotiation from the Nippon Foundation, and on the other side, the AA was removed from the terrorist list. Since then, the SAC had to be warned the AA many times as it is recruiting new members, kidnapping, interference in administrative matters and the expansion of military bases, said the SAC Chairman.

The AA violated the temporary cease-fire agreement and took part in the incident with the MNDAA. Recently, they attacked two small security camps in Palatwa area and Pauktaw town. Some police stations were also attacked, said the SAC Chairman.

At present, the attack plotted by the AA has been brought under control. There were many casualties from the AA as well as casualties from the security forces. The AA arrested members of the administration and staff in some areas in southern Rakhine State. The drivers were also detained by the AA, he said.
