There are 1,000 to 3,000 war refugees coming daily to Namtit Township controlled by United Wa State Party/United Wa State Army (UWSP/UWSA), and about 15,000 people are already taking refuge there.

The Wa group is providing food and transportation in humanitarian assistance to those displaced persons.

"Around 1,000 to 3,000 IDPs arrive daily in Namtit Township. The refugees come from various areas whenever the blocked roads reopen. They are mainly from Kunlong, Namhu, Chinshwehaw and Laukkai. We provide them with everything we can such as food, accommodation and healthcare. We arrange transport for those who want to return to Tanyan, Mongyan or Kengtung. Around 15,000 war refugees remain in Namtit Township, and humanitarian assistance is being provided free of charge to all the displaced persons,” said U Nyi Ran, in-charge of the UWSP’s liaison office.

Members of the Wa Central Committee on November 12 visited the IDPs in Namtit Township and inspected arrangements for humanitarian assistance on November 12.

At 4.00 am on October 27 in northern Shan State, members of the Northern Alliance namely MNDAA, TNLA and AA, and BPLA, PDF (Mandalay) launched coordinated attacks on Chinshwehaw, Laukkai, Kunlong, Hsenwi, Lashio, Kutkai and Hamkham in the Kokang Self-Administered Zone. Since then, there have been small and large battles across northern Shan State, and tens of thousands of civilians are being trapped along the Chinese border. More than 60,000 people are reported to have fled their homes.
