The National Committee for Setting the Minimum Wage issued the notification No. 2/2023 on October 9 that the minimum daily wage was Ks 5,800 including the allowance of Ks 1,000.
The National Committee for setting minimum wage made a decision after holding tripartite group meetings of employers, employees and the government in accordance with Section 10, Sub-section(d) of the Minimum Wage Act-2013. The Committee issued a declaration order (2/2018) on May 14th of 2018 that the country’s daily minimum wage was Ks 4,800 or Ks 600 per hour for an eight-hour day despite objections from both labour and employers.
According to the National Committee on Setting the Minimum Wage, a daily minimum wage of Ks4, 800 set on 14 May 2018 will increase by an allowance of Ks1, 000 and the new minimum wage of K5,800 per day will apply to all employees in all workplaces and factories across the country.
The Ministry of Commerce issued a notification on September 30, 2023 to allow Ks.5800 (daily wage of Ks.4800 plus Ks.1000 allowance) for daily wage workers in government departments and in private organizations.
The new order did not concern with the manageable scales and small industries comprising fewer than 10 workers.
The Committee had issued the notification No.1/2018 on January 2 of 2018 which to propose the new minimum wage for all employees who work in Myanmar to Ks 4,800 per day with eight working hours. However, the order No.1/2018 was abolished on October 5. The Minimum wage law must be amended or approved in two year again in accordance with the sub-section (h) of section-5.
