Myanmar Airways International (MAI) is planning to use a Boeing 737 cargo plane in cooperation with My Indo Airlines to carry out air cargo transportation, sources said.

A Boeing 737 cargo plane from the MAI arrived at Yangon International Airport on September 13 to carry out air cargo operations.

The airline has entered into a joint venture with My Indo Airlines (2Y) based on the ACMI system and will operate the cargo aircraft.

The introduction of the Boeing 737 cargo plane is the airline's commitment to increase its air cargo services, a support for promoting Myanmar's economic growth through the flow of goods and connecting the country to global trade routes.

"We are constantly trying to support and fulfill the country's businesses and the needs of the people. The Boeing 737 cargo plane, which will be the largest in the country, can carry more cargo in its belly. Introducing the ability to transport cargo of various sizes and types is a significant step forward in realizing our goal of improving the air cargo industry. The MAI invites the business partners to learn and use the cargo transportation capabilities of this cargo plane," said its Chief Commercial Officer.

The Boeing 737 cargo plane has eight pallets on the main deck and can be transported up to 15 tons of all kinds of goods, including palletize cargo, bulk cargo and dangerous goods.

"The airline is very proud to be able to import a special cargo plane for cargo transportation, which is very important in Myanmar's economic system. We believe that our work experience, the expanded cargo carrying capacity and upgraded cargo transportation methods will help to meet the business needs of air cargo transportation," said U Thant Sin, Head of Cargo & Ground Operations of the MAI.

The airline has been flying the Yangon-Kuala Lumpur route daily, and starting from August 11, it has increased the number of flights to twice a day.
