Myanmar and India discuss the timely completion of development projects, including the Kaladan River Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project

Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Vinay Kumar, met and discussed the timely completion of development projects, including the Kaladan River multi-modal transit transport project on March 6 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

In that meeting, they discussed the promotion of bilateral relations and cooperation, the timely completion of development projects, including the Kaladan River multi-modal transit transport project, and the enhancement of joint ventures in the region and internationally.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council, said that after the completion of the multi-purpose transportation project through the Kaladan River, international ports will be established and direct trade with other countries besides India will be possible.

He said this during a visit to the site of Kaladan River multi-modal transit transport project on February 27.

The Senior General said that the multi-use transportation project through the Kaladan River is a project that can bring many benefits to Rakhine State. The flow of goods from domestic and foreign will be made faster. Myanmar and India have a history of good relations and are good neighbors. This project will further increase transportation and trade and is a strategically important project for both countries. Therefore, efforts should be made according to the relevant sectors to complete the implementation of the project as soon as possible.

Furthermore, after the completion of the project, locals will be able to get benefits such as more trade opportunities between Myanmar and India. The emergence of international ports and direct trade will make not only with India but also with other countries. It will improve transportation in Rakhine and Chin states, greatly contributing to regional development and more employment opportunities, he said.
