A huge mine explosion occurred in the compound of the Kachin State government office in Myitkyina at about 6.35pm on October, killing an unidentified man on a motorbike who himself exploded the bomb at the scene, according to local sources.
Witnesses said it would be difficult to identify the bomber whose body had already been charred and dismembered.
“At about 6.30pm, a man entered the compound after telling the guards to send a battery. He also reached near the government office. When he was asked why he came there by an officer on duty, he said he came to send a battery for the generator room. After the explosion, it was found that the man was without limbs but with a half stomach and a half head. His motorcycle was also destroyed and there was only a half front wheel left. The mine was blown up with the use of a 220-V battery. The explosion occurred beside a newly built kitchen next to Samaduwa Sinwahnaung Hall, said a source close to the incident.
Security forces are still investigating the case and the dead bomber could not have been identified.
Local residents say they hear frequent gunfire almost every night in the town of Myitkyina.
