Gold coins weighing over 4 viss (over 6.4 kg) had been sold at the Gems Emporium in Nay Pyi Taw till September 16, said Major General Zaw Min Tun, leader of the information team of the State Administration Council (SAC).
He replied to the question of a reporter about the situation of sales of gold coin in Nay Pyi Taw during a press conference of the SAC information team on September 20.
“According to sources from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, gold coins weighing 4.5575 viss were sold till September 16. A person can buy a gold coin for the amount in cash based on the weight,” Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said.
The Gems Museum is selling gold coins of difference weights—one tical, a half tical and a quarter tical. The price was Ks2.85 million per tical till September 13, and Ks2.8 million per tical from September to September 16.
Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun however said currently there was no plan to sell gold coins in other places except Nay Pyi Taw.
He told The Daily Eleven on September 6 that the government was selling gold coins based on the rough calculation of the global gold price market.
The Gems Museum sells gold coins during weekdays from 12 noon to 4pm.
