Vicky Bowman, the former British ambassador to Myanmar, who manages the Myanmar Center for Responsible Business, and her husband, U Htain Lin, who is a Myanmar artist, have been ordered to serve one year in prison each.

Vicky Bowman and her husband are being investigated under Section 13(1)/13(5) of the Myanmar Immigration Act of 1947 (Current Provisions).

State Administration Council (SAC) spokesperson Major General Zaw Min Tun told The Daily Eleven newspaper that they were sentenced to one year in prison each,.

Her visa validity period is from October 21, 2021 to October 22, 2022, and she arrived in Myanmar from Yangon International Airport on December 8, 2019, and she holds Form (a), Part Three of the 1948 Registration of Foreigners Rules, to stay at Pan Hlaing housing in Sanchaung Township. The residence registration certificate was issued on March 9, 2022. U Htain Lin and his wife, Ms. Vicky Bowman, do not reside at the issued address and they lived at U Htain Lin's home in Kalaw Township, Shan State from March 4, 2021 to August 9, 2022. By failing to apply for a change of address on the foreigner's registration certificate during such relocation, it was found that she had violated Section 11(2) (a) (b) of the 1948 Registration of Foreigners Rules and violated Section 5(b) of the said law. She had also violated Section 4(2) of the Myanmar Immigration Act of 1947 (Current Provisions) and 13(1) of the said law was found to have been committed, according to the information team of the SAC.

In addition, U Htain Lin was found to have committed a violation of Section 13(e) of the Myanmar Immigration Act of 1947 (Current Provisions) by knowing that his wife had changed her address and helped her to continue living, contrary to the existing law, according to the information team.
