Authorities confiscated and sealed off the house of Free Funeral Service Society (Yangon) chairman U Kyaw Thu and his wife Daw Shwe Zee Gwat, according to local sources available on August 24.

Neighbours said the authorities arrived on August 23 and attached a red vinyl poster to the gate of House No.66, Arzarni Street, Ward-5, Mayangon Township, Yangon. The poster reads the land and building have been confiscated as the owners have links with the terrorist organizations.

“At about 2pm yesterday, police and soldiers arrived in six cars at the gate of U Kyaw Thu’s home. They then attached the vinyl to the gate,” said the neighbours.

The vinyl warrant says a complaint has been filed that U Kyaw Thu and his wife Daw Myint Myint Khin Pe (aka) Shwe Zee Gwat committed crimes violating Section 505(A)/512 of the Penal Code. Arrest warrants were issued for them, but they escaped and went into hiding. Both were summoned to the court by August 25. Therefore, a warrant was issued quoting the July 25 order of the Mayangon Township Court as saying that except the land for which taxes are paid, the home and property inside would be confiscated and sealed off until further notice.

Moreover, the homes of some famous political activists and celebrities such as 88’ student generation leader Min Ko Naing, film director Ko Pauk, singer Lin Lin, singer Chan Chan, TV presenter Maung Maung Aye, writer Wai Hmu Thwin and social influencer Pan Selo have already been sealed off.
