Funeral of last surviving grandchild of Myanmar’s King Thibaw held

The funeral of Hteik Su Phaya Gyi (aka) Daw Su Su Khin, a granddaughter of King Thibaw, the last king of the Konbaung Dynasty of Myanmar and also the last monarch in the country's history, and Queen Supayalat, was held at Yayway Cemetery in Yangon at 2pm on January 2.  

The funeral was attended by her family members, the kings fourth daughters family members and descendants of Alaung Mintayagyi, the founder of the Konbaung Dynasty.  

Hteik Su Phaya Gyi died of natural causes at the age of 99 at Pinpa Buddha Vadi Nunnery at Nine Mile in Yangon at 4.15 pm on December 31. She was the last grandchild of the last king of the Konbaung Dynasty to have survived before her demise.

She was the second eldest daughter of the fourth Princess Myat Phaya Galay, the fourth daughter of King Thibaw. There were five siblings including her. They were Taw Phaya, Hteik Su Phaya Gyi, Taw Phaya Gyi, Hteik Su Phaya Htwe, and Taw Phaya Galay.

Hteik Su Phaya Gyi has been survived by 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
