U Hla Ye, chief administrative officer of Oukkyin ward in Mawlamyine, Mon Sate, was shot and killed on the night of 30 October, according to local sources.  

Residents of the ward said that U Hla Ye, aged 73, was shot by two unknown persons on a motorbike around 7pm on October 30 at the corner of Daingwunkwin and Kalyanithein roads, Oukkyin ward, Mawlamyine . U Hla Ye was wounded in the back and succumbed to death while on the way to hospital.

Residents of the ward said they heard about four to five gunshots. At that time there were not many people passing by, and they didn't know what sound it was. Only later they knew it was gunfire. It was learnt that the ward chief administrative officer's house was in Bilin area. He was shot at the corner of Daingkwin road and Kalyanithein road, said one resident of Oukkyin ward.

 After U Hla Ye was shot, security personnel arrived and did investigations, said the residents of the ward.

On October 8 also, U Hla Win, 100-house ward elder of Kwinyat ward was shot and killed while on October 18, another 100-house elder Ko Moe Oo of Maungngan ward were shot and killed by unknown gunmen.
