Myanmar’s Union Minister for Electricity and Energy, U Ko Ko Lwin, met with Thai Energy Minister Akanat Promphan on October 19 to discuss expanding cross-border energy cooperation. Key topics included drafting a bilateral energy memorandum of understanding (MoU), boosting output from existing joint natural gas fields, maximizing gas pipeline capacity to Thailand, and exploring a potential trilateral energy trading initiative involving Myanmar, Thailand, and Russia centered in Dawei.

The delegations—including representatives from Thai energy firms PTT, PTTEP, and EGAT—also reviewed prospective Thai investments in cross-border power grids, electricity distribution, and hydropower projects along the Salween and Tanintharyi river basins. The Thai delegation concluded the visit with a tour of the Maravijaya Buddha image in Nay Pyi Taw.
