The Australian foreign ministry said on April 5 that two Australian nationals that were detained in Myanmar after the Feb 1 coup has been freed and left Yangon.

Christa Avery and her husband Matthew O’Kane tried to leave on March 19 on a relief flight back home but were detained instead. They were both working in Yangon as business consultants.

The Australian foreign ministry said that they were given necessary consul assistance from Australian consular officers and were both able to leave Yangon on April 4.

However, Professor Sean Turnell, also an Australian and the economic advisor to State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi is still being detained and is being sued. He is the first foreign national to be detained since the coup.

The Australian Embassy have said on April 2 that they are working on his release.
