Press freedom could be restricted for the violation of law and legal action will be taken, said Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun, leader of the press team of the State Administration Council (SAC). 

The warning was made during a press conference of the council held at the ministry of information in Nay Pyi Taw on February 16. 

“Local media have been writing their news freely since February 1. Is there any case in which we took action against the media? Point out if there was any. In the past there were such actions. At this time, is there any such a case? However, they need to be in conformity with the rules and disciplines. If there is breach of law, we might have to impose restrictions. When it comes to the media, we cannot give a guarantee. We will not say we will do it. We will not say we will not do. I want to say we will act in accord with the law,” said Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun. 

He stressed that it was better for the media to follow the journalistic ethics. They were not threatening the media but urging them to act in line with the prescribed rules and disciplines, he added.
