Mandalay Mayor Dr Ye Lwin was arrested again this morning.

Dr Ye Lwin, also chair of Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC), wrote a post on his Facebook account saying that he resigned from the post of mayor on February 5 and joined the civil disobedience movement (CDM) together with the committee staff. His Facebook profile also flashes a three-finger salute in opposition to dictatorial rule. 

His Facebook post says “I have learned that as CDM picks up steam, some development affairs departments have closed while about 10 percent staff are still heading to their departments. Except those providing services for water distribution, markets, garbage collection and drainage, most of the staff do not go to work. Those staff are also public members.”    

In addition to the Mandalay mayor, MCDC member Kyaw Zeyar was also arrested at 12 midnight on February 8, according to sources close to them.
