Within the month of January there has been a surge of COVID-19 related deaths in Mon State, as learnt from the State Department of Public Health.     

Till the end of December last year, although there had been only 22 deaths due to COVID-19 disease, now tilman 17th  Jan. The number of deaths of confirmed patients has reached 31, said Dr. Wut Hmone, deputy State Head of Department of State Department of Public Health.      

Dr Wut Hmone said that there had been one death every one or two days. In some days there has been one death a day. Those that died had underlying diseases. If they had not been infected with COVID-19 thay could go about normally. They died mainly due to COVID-19. Underlying diseases were a minor issue.      

She further said that it could be stated that the COVID-19 pandemic is becoming a bit severe. The reason was that in Mon State the number of  deaths confirmed was stunted at over 20 for a long time. But these days as the number of deaths has increased one starts to think whether the state of the disease has changed.      

Dr Wut Hmone said that as regards treatment of the disease more care has to be given should the severity of the disease increase. Instructions had been given as regards the dispensing of medicines to severe patients.  She urged the public to stay at home as much as possible, and to wear masks should there be a need to go outdoors.     

Since the discovery of COVID-19 infected patients in Mon State on 8th  April, 2020 and till 16th  Jan. 2021there had been 3020 confirmed patients, and there had been 31 deaths. 2618 had recovered and had been discharged from hospital, as information gathered from the statistics from the Department of State Public Health
