Tweehtan village in Tiddum, Chin State has 19 COVID-19 patients with one death and the village is under lockdown according to Chin State Social Affairs Minister Pau Lun Mint Thang.

Tweehtan village is 18 miles away from Tiddim.  There is only one health clinic in Tweehtan village with over 300 households with more than 3000 people. Chin State Department of Public Health has set the village under lockdown from December 27 to January 9, 2021. Visitors will be prohibited and for buying food and for emergency health issues, communication must be made with officials in lockdown areas.

“The village in under lockdown and the infection rate is still higher. Yesterday, there were 8 positive patients. The infection rate of 8 in over 500 households is a big number. The eight positive patients are connected with the one death in the village. The challenge is it is impossible to let the positive patients in the village. If they are to send to Tiddum, there are many requirements to accept them in Tiddim. We are lucky at present because all the positive patients in the village show no serious symptoms such as difficulty in breathing. If their condition gets worse, it is impossible to treat them here. Among the positive patients, elderly and poor health backgrounds are sent to Tiddim. Another challenge is as the lockdown was set before collecting food for the villagers, they are in hardship.  As the Tweehtan village is on the main road to go to town, there are about 6 villages on the way. As a result, all the villages are happened to be among the lockdown list. There is a hospital in the area but the numbers of healthcare workers are few,” said Lyunton, who went to the village.
