Myo Myint Than, Myanmar ambassador for Thailand, urged Myanmar migrant workers illegally working in Thailand to undergo COVID-19 test on December 28.

He went to meet Myanmar workers undergoing COVID-19 test at a market in Samut Sakhon Province and urged the illegal migrant workers to undergo the test.

The list collected by officials and police force is not detained by the illegal migrant workers and it is to protect the spread of COVID-19 virus. He will negotiate with Thai authorities for Myanmar migrant workers, who don’t have complete documentations.

Thailand will not take action on illegal Myanmar migrant workers in Mahachai, where COVID-19 outbreak is spreading again, and they will have medical treatment.

Officials from both countries discussed the issue on December 14, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to an announcement from Myanmar labour consulate in Thailand, Myanmar migrant workers, who have documentations or not, don’t need to worry and if they have symptoms of COVID-19, they have been urged to undergo COVID-19 test in nearest hospitals and clinics and follow health instructions in line with rules and regulations in Thailand.

The COVID-19 outbreak is spread around in Mahachai, Samut Sakhon Province, where most Myanmar migrant workers live, and more than 4,000 Myanmar migrant workers are stranded in the province, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
