An inspector from Meiktila district police force was found infected with COVID-19 virus on November 18 and seven policemen, who are close contact with him, are put in quarantine at a religious hall in the office compound although they tested negative, sources said.

“We found that a police inspector from the Meiktila district police force was infected with the COVID-19 virus while he was in duty with the deputy head of Tharzi Township administrative department at Tharzi in the election period. We are tracing people who talked with him. The rest are helping their work,” said Police Lt-Col Ohn Han Oo, head of the Meiktila district police force on November 19.

A total of 118 confirmed patients are admitted to Meiktila district general hospital from September 7 until now and 100 of them are allowed to be discharged from the hospital. A total of 18 patients including a nurse, a healthcare staff from the hospital, their family members and the inspector are still receiving treatment at the hospital.

Around 45 people, who came back from Yangon, Mandalay and overseas countries, are put in quarantine at No.1 Basic Education High School in Meiktila and more than 49 people, who had contact with the positive patients, are put in quarantine at a quarantine center in Meiktila University.

A total of eight policemen including a police officer from Tharzi Township police force were found infected with the virus on November 17.
