Only a few number of people said accusations about unfair election and accusations without evidence don’t need to be considered, said Myint Naing, member of Union Election Commission (UEC) on November 11 during a press briefing held at the office of UEC in Nay Pyi Taw.
He replied to a question raised by a reporter that the Chair of the opposition party, Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), demanded to re-run the election as it is not a free and fair election.
“It is just their accusation and only a few people have said anything about it. We have to respect the desires of the majority of people. They don’t have evidence that the election is unfair. We held the election free and fair. Big parties supported, welcomed and recognized the election result. However there may be weaknesses and faults in the election process. We don’t need to consider what they said as they don’t have evidence,” he said.
He said replying to a question raised by a reporter that the USDP demanded to re-run the election with the cooperation of the military, “I don’t have anything to say as we have to follow legal procedures.”
He added it is the responsibility of the candidates who don’t sign their loss and the commission will implement in line with law after the USDP had ordered its candidates not to sign off Form-19.
“One of the big parties congratulated the success of NLD and another big party accepted the election result although there are some problems. The other party is glad that they have an unexpected number of voters although their party is a new one. It is good for the democracy system and there are parties which don’t like it,” he said.
