A landslide blocked thirty vehicles carrying education staff assigned for polling stations in Khaunglanhpu for nine days and the staff had to continue their journey on foot, according to the drivers.

They were blocked at a place in Khaunglanhpu Township, Putao district and some drivers came back to Putao on foot due to food shortage, according to Ko Dwat, who hired his car for them.

“The landslide blocked our way and they continued their journey on foot. We ate dried noodles for four or five days and now we have arrived back in Putao. We will go back after the next three days to get our cars back. It is about 25 miles away from Magwayza,” he said.

Kachin State election commission said transportation access to Khaunglanhpu, Tsawlaw and Pannandin sub-township in Naungmo are difficult.

Voting materials are sent to remote areas using military helicopters and over 300 teachers are giving training at Myitkyina and Putao to send to polling stations in remote areas.

A total of 410 candidates from 19 parties are listed to compete in 36 vacant seats for State Parliament, 18 seats for Pyithu Hluttaw, 12 seats for Amyotha Hluttaw and 4 seats for ethnic affairs minister post in 2020 general election.
