Member of Union Election Commission (UEC) Myint Naing said that there are very few chances of contacting COVID-19 when going out for voting compared with going shopping and taking buses at a press brief held at the office of the Union Election Commission in Nay Pyi Taw on October 21.
“There are 44 townships in Yangon Region that are under the stay at home programme. On election day, we will distribute high quality masks free of charge. Next, we will set two shifts for voters when they come to cast their votes. We will enforce the 6 feet distance rule in polling stations. We will provide hand gel and hand wash liquids, check body temperature and provide face shields. We are arranging systematically for the voters. If the voters follow our instructions, there are very few chances of contacting COVID-19 when voting. It is safer than going shopping or taking passenger buses,” said Myint Naing.
No matter how much the UEC is implementing safety measures for voters, the cooperation of voters is also important. In the populous areas, arrangements are being made not to hold ID cards by hands, he added.
Rehearsals for casting votes had been made in Nay Pyi Taw thrice and the rehearsals were attended by State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.
